QOS provides Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) services to refineries, oil & gas processing, petrochemical and power plants. Services include the RBI methodology and consultancy.

QOS RBI is based on the American Petroleum Institute RP 580/581 inspection methodologiesand utilises of formulae-based calculations on design standards, such as ASME and ANSI.

Rope Access

On difficult to access areas such as splash-zones of offshore platforms and on telecommunication towers, our services are provided by duel-trained Corrosion Technicians who are able to abseil.

Inspired by developments in recreational mountaineering and caving, rope access or abseiling is a work positioning technique used to reach non-readily accessible work locations by means of a rope system suspended from a nearby structure, via selected independent anchor points. Today, rope access is an internationally recognized alternative to more traditional means of access such as scaffolding, ladders, gondolas, boson chairs, mechanical lifts or staging.

    Rope Access is safe, environment friendly and is extremely cost effective since no mechanically powered devices are used for movement. In addition to its exemplary safety record, some of the advantages associated with industrial abseiling when compared to conventional methods of access include:

    Reduces Security Risk

    Unlike other bulky and cumbersome access methods, rope access systems are dismantled and removed at the end of each working day, causing no disruption to building occupants, pedestrians and traffic flow. There is no risk associated with unattended ladders, scaffolds or other access equipment and materials.

    Dramatically reduced time-related charges

    Rope access systems require minimal installation and dismantling time. A full set of abseiling gear can be set up or dismantled within an hour, while conventional methods of accessing, such as scaffolding, often require lengthy and expensive installation periods.

    Eliminates mechanical damage to protective coatings

    Rope access activities do not cause any mechanical damage to the coatings of inspected structures. In comparison, the erection and dismantling of scaffolding usually results in damaged paintwork at contact points.

    Drastically reduces labour cost

    Studies have shown that the cost of performing visual inspection and Non-Destructive Testing by rope access can be drastically lowered (by up to 90%), when compared to the cost of access by traditional scaffolding.

Vendor Inspection

Vendor Inspection, sometimes referred to as Source Inspection or Third Party Inspection, covers inspection activities performed at manufacturer’s works of all types of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment that are purchased by clients within the Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical and Mining Industries.

With today's technology and communications the need for companies to respond and react quickly and efficiently to quality control requirements for procured products is increasingly important.

The level of Vendor Inspection services provided is intrinsically linked to the equipment involved, the Purchase Order requirements and the technical specifications / standards (national and international) applicable to the equipment. Normally the level of inspection is reviewed with the client to ensure that both parties fully understand what is expected of the other.

Should the client require only one or two visits, for example to conduct final inspection or to witness a test on a specific piece of kit, the scope of inspection is easily and clearly defined. When the scope of inspection is more detailed the manufacturer normally draws up a Quality Control Plan or Inspection and Test Plan on which the scope of inspection for all parties is agreed and the client then approves this document.

For a sizeable skid package or critical piece of equipment a Pre Production or Pre Inspection Meeting is held during which all parties discuss the scope of inspection, locations for inspection, communication channels and agree the proposed mark up of the Quality Control Plan.

QOS is able to review your equipment specifications and advise you on the inspection requirements. If no local legislation applies in the country of operations, QOS is able to assist with assessing the equipment inspection requirements, including periodicity, by using best practice and international codes and standards.

The regulations normally require employers to ensure that, before equipment is put into use for the first time, it is thoroughly examined for defects, unless the equipment has not been used before and has a CE mark.

Once in use, the user has a responsibility to ensure that the equipment is thoroughly examined at regular intervals, as defined in the regulation.

The examinations must be carried out by a Competent Person who is able to be independent and impartial. The level of examination depends on several factors and based on the risks that could arise. The Competent Person must also decide on any appropriate tests that need to be carried out to ensure compliance.

QOS is able to carry out full equipment assessments and determine the requirements of each type of equipment. Once this is done, it is possible to implement a complete management control system to track and monitor each item so that its inspection status is known. This system can be tailored to the client’s specific requirements and can be augmented by either a computerised database or a manual system. Also, if required, QOS is able to implement a tagging system which can be colour coded to suit the client’s requirements so that equipment whose inspection is out of date is easily identifiable and can, therefore, be put out of use until the inspection has been completed.
